We hear it in passing, but do we really understand Martial law? Do we honestly believe it could be possible here..In our “land of the free, and home of the brave’.?
Martial law is when the military takes control instead of the government. It's like having soldiers in charge of everything for a while. Think about your daily life and your access to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness”
It has happened throughout history throughout the world..Always with future consequence. It sometimes stays in place for decades, putting democracy at risk, or all out destroying it in favor of the benefit and power to few..
Martial law means:
Military leaders make the rules
Normal laws are put on hold
Soldiers might be in the streets
People's rights might be limited
Curfews may be ordered
Who can declare martial law?
The President
State governors (in their own states)
Sometimes local leaders in emergencies5
Why it typically has been implemented:
The last time it happened in all of the U.S. was during World War II in Hawaii. Martial law is serious and doesn't happen often. It's usually only used when there's a big problem that regular laws can't fix, or when leaders conjure up enough fear that we allow it to happen.
